Amateur ballroom dancer and breast cancer survivor, Jen Jackson, is the author of Breast Cancer Ballroom Dancer, a blog about dancing through cancer treatment and beyond. She shared her inspirational story with me as a guest on The Dancing Housewife Show last fall. Listen here…
DANCE UPDATE: Jenn competed in the Vancouver Challenge Cup in January and reported it was a great personal success. Visit her blog to read some general feedback in Competitive Success as well as her detailed Pro/Am Review of Vancouver Challenge Cup.
HEALTH UPDATE: On Tuesday, March 14, Jenn received news that the genetic testing she’d undergone showed a mutation on the BRCA2 gene. She explained, “this is a big part of the explanation for why I got breast cancer at 35. It also means I am at high risk for Ovarian cancer as well–and there is no definitive way to test for that. In a nutshell, my ovaries are now going to be coming out, especially since they are misbehaving so much.”
On the advice of her medical team, Jenn has elected to undergo prophylactic hysterectomy which is scheduled for early July. Please visit Breast Cancer Ballroom Dancer for Jenn’s latest updates and follow her on Facebook.
